The Club is saddened  and offers sympathy to Glenis and all the family on the passing way of Past President Brian Boyd.

Brian’s contribution to The Rotary Club of Lisburn and Rotary Ireland, over some 44 years, has been enormous. Brian joined The Rotary Club of Lisburn  in 1966 and became President in 1977. His year was a great success and the highlight was the District Conference in Killarney. Brian was a perfectionist in whatever he did and no corners were ever cut to achieve success. He often said what many of us were thinking although this at times would have ruffled a few feathers. But this was never for personal gain.

He was a great family man and liked to be surrounded by, and was very proud by his many grand children

Brian was involved with District, as returning Officer for many year, and he kept most Clubs on their toes when asked to forward their returns. His own attendance at weekly meetings was remarkable, even in the later years in declining health. He was always very generous and helpful to the Club through his company Alexander Boyd and Co. Nothing was too much trouble for him when it came to printing posters, ticket etc.

He was fiercely competitive in sport and particularly in golf. in the later years he never let his poor health stop him enjoying a good game of golf. Of his many golfing incidents Brian Huey summed him up by recounting how each year at Malone Golf Club, The Boyd Cup for under 18 girls and boys was sponsored by his company, with generous prizes and hospitality. As  Brian collected the score cards one unsuspecting young lad explained that he had played so badly he had torn up his card. He was promptly told no card , no food, so there was a long walk out  for him,to the 16th Tee to collect his card from the bin.

Brian’s presence and contribution to the Rotary Club of Lisburn will be sadly missed .
